How to Use Instagram Stories for Your Business [UPDATED 2018]

How to Use Instagram Stories for Your Business [UPDATED 2018]

Instagram stories were added as a feature on Instagram in 2016. It allows users to share a photo or video snippet with their followers that is only available to view for 24 hours.

It’s especially great for those users with streamlined, polished Instagram feeds. You are able to post various things on Instagram stories and it won’t take away from the theme of your actual profile.

300 million people are actively viewing Instagram stories each day! Yet bloggers and business owners are not leveraging Instagram stories effectively to grow their brand and their business.

Instagram stories help to create a level of interest authentically about you and your brand. When used strategically, Instagram stories can, in turn, give your business a great boost.

Have you been looking for ways to use Instagram stories for your business?

I know it can be tempting to just post random things throughout the day, but that doesn’t attract clients or convert into traffic and customers. I share more about this in my Instagram Stories 101 Mini Training, which you can access for free at the end of this post.

Using Instagram stories to grow your audience and your brand is possible.

Here are some proven ways that can work for your business.

Create a “behind the scenes” look into your life or business.

Using photos or videos to show the day in the life of a personal chef or a blogger gives your followers an inside peek into who you are behind the brand.

This builds authentic relationships and connections between you and your followers. They want to get to know who you are.

I also share a day to day look at what’s going on in my life. Your audience is looking to see YOU not just your perfectly created flatlays.

You can also create a daily theme for each day, such as Motivation Monday where you share what motivates you throughout the day or Work with Me Wednesday where you just show exactly how you work throughout the day.

Find something that works for you, your brand and your niche.

Share content from your blog.

You can easily share tidbits of a new post, sales, or new product hints to drive traffic to your blog using Instagram stories. Here is a simple way I have used Instagram stories to share about a blog post.

how to use instagram stories for business

This is extremely simple but it drives my point across.

Instagram Tip: Be sure to use the location and hashtags to get more views on your story.

If you are a fitness coach, you may want to break down an exercise or if you are promoting a book, use a few lines from a chapter and end with the link for them to go purchase.

Be sure to end with a call to action or actionable step for people to complete.

Since the goal is to get followers to your site, use your URL. If your URL is extremely long, use a shortener instead to make it easier for your audience since they are unable to simply click a link (unless you have more than 10,000 followers-then you do!)

Cross promote a Facebook Live or YouTube video.

Instagram stories only allow you to create short quick videos. You can use video on this platform to share quick, to the point topics.

But if you are going live on Facebook or have posted a new YouTube video that explains a topic at length, you can use Instagram stories to cross promote.

Give your followers a quick teaser to make them want to attend your live event or check out your video.

If you are sharing how to bake a cake from scratch, share a photo of the ingredients along with the URL to your channel or Facebook page.

Show your product or business in action.

This is great for any business. If you provide a service, show video clips or photos of you providing that service. If you are a fitness coach, share a photo of you working out with a client.

I am always sharing photos of myself on virtual calls with my clients. It shows that you care about what you do and the service you provide. It also allows potential clients to get a glimpse of what to expect from you.

If you have products, you can share video snippets of how to use or wear your product. And don’t forget to add links to your products or your services page on your website.

These are just a few ways that you can use Instagram stories for your business.

I have also found that the more creative you are with your stories, the better engagement. I have also gotten more eyes on my stories than my main feed!
